If you ever have heard that nobody is perfect, this sentence makes no difference when it comes to talking about celebrities, and they are for sure not perfect either. This is only the crude truth behind the glamour of the screen, the film set and the candlelight.
In the end, celebrities are as normal people as you or me, and ugliness is not only limited to Julia Roberts, the ugly protagonist of the movie "Pretty Woman", or the natural condition of the excellent actress Andy McDowell that, altogether with Roberts, became icons of the ugliness that invaded the scenarios since the late 1980's... ugly even with makeup!
With the paparazzi here, there and everywhere, the facility of disposal cams, digital cams, and mobile phone cams, when the celebrities leave behind the glamour to live ordinary lives, today more than ever it is easy to get unposed photos that let’s everybody see the sad revelation that confirms what celebrities really look like.
The terms ugliness refers to the property of physical things that are unappealing to the eye, and it is commonly applied to human appearance, although it may also be ascribed to something else, such as literature, music, scientific theories, human actions, and so on.
However ugliness, whether related to celebrities or something else, may be considered as subjective as beauty. The matter of subjective aesthetics is in other words, what one person may think is beautiful, may be found ugly for another. American culture is considered very ugly, perhaps as ugly as their celebrities, but Americans do not think the same and many other cultures find the American culture a model to follow.
Just like the saying "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder", nobody is perfect but nothing is so ugly to be ignored. A while ago the British Guardian Newspaper laughed a lot about the American advances in medicine for the treatment of beauty and ugliness values, asking when being ugly was a "condition" to be treated with medications.
Such new advance treatments were claimed as the definitive cure for sensitive medical conditions such as short stature, baldness, change color skin, and some others, usually treated with cosmetic surgery, but Americans by then were convinced that their discoveries help people in the pursuit of happiness.
The British paper published, "In America, people take Viagra at bedtime and Ritalin before work, then inject Botox into our wrinkled brows and rub Rogaine on their balding heads throughout the day, and later they run to swallow Paxil for shyness, Prozac for grief, and Buspar for anxiety. However for stage fright they use beta blockers and for excessive blushing and sweating, they get endoscopic surgery to go back home and take Viagra before the cycle restart"
This statement was for some funny, for some others cruel, but definitely a proof of the different approach of common matters. Could the above describe a day in the life of the celebrities caught without makeup? Doubtfully because many celebrities on the scoop of the no-makeup pictures come from as many countries as points of view the ugliness discussion may have.
Beauty and ugliness are as subjective that what today is beautiful tomorrow is ugly and vice versa. Back to Julia Roberts, many critics were surprised with the decision to get her performing a role that was exactly the opposite of what her face told us, however watching her frequently in both the silver screen and the TV screen make us consider a standard of beauty nowadays.
However, always is surprising to find those pictures of celebrities that nobody can figure out how ugly they are behind the rouge, lipstick and the overall makeup that turns them glamorous, although there will be always a fan saying "oh well, they were took on a bad hair day".
Winston Churchill, British Orator, Author and Prime Minister during World War II, 1874-1965 quoted, "They say that nobody is perfect. Then they tell you practice makes perfect. I wish they'd make up their minds."
